AI Tool & Route Requirements

First identify where the request is going, then compare routes. Regional availability, account permissions, and network connectivity are separate issues; a connected client alone doesn’t confirm access.

AI tools may determine eligibility based on your exit IP, account details, organization policies, and billing region. Your route’s location must fall within the tool’s current service area, but meeting that requirement doesn’t guarantee your account will work. Shared exit IPs may trigger additional verification. Follow the tool’s official process if prompted; avoid repeatedly refreshing the sign-in page or switching regions in quick succession.

Text chats often stream responses in chunks, while coding assistants continue making requests as you edit. When choosing a route, check not only whether the page loads, but also whether generation completes normally and suggestions arrive without interruption. Loading the homepage once is not a substitute for testing a complete task.

Sign-up & Sign-in Checks

Check Region and Account Separately

Before connecting, review the tool’s official service-region and account requirements. If it says your current region isn’t supported, check your actual exit location against the tool’s published coverage instead of treating every error as a routing issue. Account details, workspace permissions, and billing eligibility can also affect feature access; a network connection can’t replace them.

Try to stay in the same region and use the same exit route throughout sign-in. After switching routes, an existing session may require verification again, and your browser’s account state may not have updated yet. Save your work, then sign in again as prompted. Don’t repeatedly submit authentication requests across multiple windows while troubleshooting.

Verification Loops & Resource Loading

Sign-in pages may load more than the main site, including authentication services, static assets, and verification pages. If the main site uses a proxy but authentication requests connect directly, you may see a verification loop, a blank page, or a redirect back to the sign-in screen. Check your client’s routing logs to confirm these requests follow a consistent path.

Browser extensions, privacy settings, system time, and site data can also interfere with sign-in. Try a separate browser profile for comparison and temporarily disable extensions that may affect requests. Don’t clear all browsing data, which could remove sessions for other sites. If needed, clear data only for the affected site.

Web vs. API Access

Web products and developer APIs from the same provider may have different authentication, billing, and regional requirements.

Web Access Doesn’t Confirm API Access

Web apps use browser sessions, while APIs typically require separate credentials and developer-account permissions. A web subscription doesn’t necessarily include API credits, and signing in through a browser doesn’t prove that terminal requests use a proxy. Check the official API endpoint, credential permissions, account quota, and network exit separately. Don’t mistake an authentication failure for a connectivity problem.

Streaming responses keep connections open for longer. If generation stops midway, check whether your local network switched, the proxy connection dropped, or an intermediary gateway ended the response early. Application timeouts, server load, and overly long requests can cause similar symptoms. Check the error message rather than assuming a stalled response means the route is unavailable.

Local and Remote Requests Use Different Routes

When requests come from a cloud server, remote development container, or automation job, the actual exit route usually depends on that remote environment. Connecting a client on your own computer won’t automatically reroute remote requests. Check connectivity where the task actually runs, and follow the terms of service for your cloud platform and AI tools.

CLI, IDE & CI Configuration

Command Line: Check Which Settings the Process Uses

Enabling a system proxy doesn’t guarantee command-line programs will use it. Check the SDK or CLI documentation to see whether it supports a system proxy, environment variables, or dedicated options. Get the proxy address and port from your local client settings. Don’t copy someone else’s local port or use a subscription URL as an HTTP proxy address.

Environment variables usually apply only to the relevant process and any child processes it starts. After making changes, restart the command or terminal and check whether an old setting overrides the new one. Runtime libraries vary in how they handle proxy protocols, variable name casing, and exclusion rules; refer to the documentation for the library making the request.

IDE: Test Completions, Chat, and Remote Extensions Separately

Features related to Cursor and Copilot may send requests through different components. If chat works but completions fail, check extension sign-in, model permissions, and extension logs, then make sure the routing rules cover the relevant requests. Reload the editor window after changing settings so background processes don’t keep using the previous connection configuration.

For remote development, also check whether the extension runs locally or remotely. The browser’s authentication callback may happen locally, while code analysis and model requests come from a remote extension host. Changing proxy settings on only one side often won’t fix the full workflow. If logs show certificate errors, check your trusted certificate configuration instead of disabling certificate verification.

CI: Exit Route, Credentials & Retry Limits

Verify the CI runner’s network environment independently; don’t rely on your developer machine’s connection status. If a proxy is needed, use an organization-approved configuration and confirm the job container can reach it. Store API credentials in CI secret variables, not in the repository, build artifacts, or public logs.

Set reasonable timeouts and a limited number of retries for failed jobs. Distinguish authentication errors, quota issues, and temporary connection failures. Don’t automatically resubmit generation tasks that may already have succeeded, as this can create duplicate requests. Before sharing troubleshooting logs, redact credentials, full subscription URLs, and business data.

Common Symptoms & Causes

Keep the original error message, then make changes you can compare. Changing one thing at a time makes the cause easier to find.

The Homepage Loads, but Messages Keep Waiting?
Homepage assets and chat requests may use different routes. Check your client’s routing logs, then look for server load, account quota, or model permission notices. Test with a short new conversation and see whether streamed content starts arriving. Don’t immediately resend the original request with large attachments.
Still Seeing a Region Restriction After Switching Routes?
Check the tool’s official supported regions against your actual exit location, then make sure the old session isn’t still active. Account details, organization settings, and feature availability may also affect eligibility. Changing your exit route can’t guarantee a change in account eligibility. Contact the tool’s official support channel for explicit account restrictions.
Browser Works, but Terminal Requests Time Out?
Check whether the terminal uses a proxy, which proxy protocols the SDK supports, and whether environment variables reach the process actually making the request. In a container or remote machine, the loopback address points to that environment itself; it doesn’t automatically connect to the client on your developer machine.
Image Task Finished, but the Result Won’t Load?
Image tools such as Midjourney may use different domains for task requests and image assets. Check the task status first, then review routing rules for image requests, browser extensions, and the download path. An image that won’t load doesn’t necessarily mean generation failed; check for an existing result before submitting the task again.
IDE Errors Continue After Switching Routes?
The editor or extension may still be using an old connection. Save your work, reload the window, and check extension account status, proxy settings, and request logs. If the error points to credentials, model permissions, or quota, address the corresponding account issue; switching routes won’t fix those conditions.

Still can’t find the cause? Read the troubleshooting guide, or send the tool name, runtime environment, time of the issue, route region, and a redacted error message through the support ticket portal.

Choose a Route by Use Case

For web chat, start with a region within the tool’s service area and keep the same exit route during sign-in and conversations. For long responses, code editing, or continuous completions, test the complete workflow rather than just loading the homepage. IEPL, transit, and direct connections describe route types; they don’t guarantee access to any particular AI tool.

When using a computer and mobile device at the same time, check each client’s routing rules and target app separately. InnVPN supports Windows / macOS / iOS / Android / Linux, with unlimited simultaneous devices. System proxy settings and app behavior still need to be checked on each device. Military-grade encryption protects network connections but doesn’t change how AI platforms process data. Follow your organization’s requirements when handling sensitive project content.
